Initial Ideas
Making the maze
I actually really enjoyed the making of the maze, mainly because I could do what I wanted with it. I began with a basic design of a hexagon with handles, then properly dimensioned and extruded that. I also added an in a hexagon bed for the layout. I was going to filet the sides to give it a smooth design, but I learned that was not allowed and I had to undo it. The first image is a beginning model with the filets.
Next was the creation of the inside of the maze, the hardest thing I have done in Inventor. The dimensioning took a long time and I had a lot of trouble getting the barriers to line up, but through a lot of time later I figured it out, and some extrusions later I had a final project. |
Setting up tool path in Fusion 360
Setting up the tool paths in Fusion was a bit of an adventure for me. The beginning was simple, that being setting the stock and dimensioning the piece out to fit the machine. The problem was setting up the tool paths without having the maze get a hole in the handle. Also, selecting all of the contour paths took a good while, but I ended up having to adjust something I didn't even know about to get the piece to work. Fortunately, The piece worked, and it was ready for cutting.

Using The Router
With the paths done, I quickly saved it to my USB and went down to the router to set it up. This part was actually rather simple for me. All I had to do was select my file on the computer, aim the drill tip onto the center of the foam, zero out the coordinates, and just hit start. Soon enough I had a finished maze - well so I thought. The back of the handles didn't actually print, so I had to cut it out with a box cutter. Fortunately that wasn't hard and now I had a finished maze.

Final Part
Summary
Throughout all of the individual projects, I believe this one was the hardest for me. Using Fusion was never my strong suit, and It did show with the problems I had making this. From incorrect channel size too a completely random cut in the handle that I had to get the teacher for and even then it took a while to get, this project was rather shaky. Fortunately It did come out at the end and I was able to complete it on time.
